Faculty Senate Awards 2020-2021

SENATE RECOGNIZES OUTSTANDING PARTNERS 2020

 

Throughout the Spring 2021 semester, the мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ Faculty Senate awarded four outstanding community and business partners in the Mobile area who enhance the university’s mission of teaching, research and service.

  • Lori Wichman, DNP, Manager of Clinical Education at Baptist Healthcare in Pensacola, FL, received the Outstanding Research Partner Award for her support of мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ’s research mission.  She has helped obtain critical data for мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ Faculty members pertaining to burnout during COVID and organizational work-life factors.  Dr. David Turnipseed nominated Wichman for the award. 

  • Mobile County Public School System (MCPSS) and Superintendent, Chresal Threadgill received the Outstanding Teaching Partner Award.  MCPSS and мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ have partnered together through a Federal grant to create PASSAGE мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ, a transition initiative to help students with intellectual disabilities, their parents, and their teachers learn about new post-secondary education opportunities at мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ. Dr. Delwar Hossain nominated MCPSS for the award. 

  • The City of Mobile and Mayor Sandy Stimpson received the Outstanding Community Partner Award.  Mayor Stimpson’s leadership in conjunction with мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ Health to manage pandemic issues and mitigate COVID impact on our community was integral in keeping the citizens of Mobile healthy during the pandemic.  Dr. Robert Ross nominated Mayor Stimpson for the award.

  • FeAunté Preyear, Title IX Investigator at мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ, received the Semoon and Youngshin Chang Award for Humanitarian Services.  Ms. Preyear has served victims of sexual assault on the campus of мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ for years and until recently her work was done on a purely voluntary basis.  She has served as chair of the Violence Prevention Alliance and has helped implement Girls’ Night Out and Bro Code here at мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ. Her work as a victim advocate is emotionally difficulty work, but it is critically important for the recovery and well-being of sexual assault victims.  Dr. Sarah Koon-Magnin nominated Preyear for this award.

The Research Community Parner Award is for providing direct support to the research mission of мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ faculty through financial, in-kind, personnel, expertise, office space, consulting, or other means.

The Education Community Partner Award is for providing direct support to the teaching mission of мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ faculty, broadly defined, by providing a setting and/or skilled supervision for мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ students. This partner enhances the educational mission of the мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ faculty by providing internship/externship/field placement to мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ students.

The Outstanding Community Partner Award is for an organization/agency that works with мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±×ÊÁÏ faculty to address needs of the greater Mobile community through collaborative research and/or service delivery.
